Identic AI: Digital personas that stand in for us

Clients are no longer the ones you are used to have. The landscape is shifting, and suddenly the people we thought we were serving are now represented by something else entirely.

Carl is the AI agent representing Bob. Carl is getting ready to meet Ali. Ali is the AI agent who knows Bettany to the T.
Both agents will meet on an e‑date, talk for hours about their most personal thoughts, get to know each other and see if there is a spark. Meanwhile, Bob is absorbed in his investor meeting, planning that desired acquisition. Bethany, a busy surgeon, is finally heading to her well‑deserved wellness retreat after a demanding year running the surgery department of a major hospital in the city.
A Glimpse Into AI‑Mediated Human Connection
Carl and Ali, these AI agents standing in for Bob and Bettany, carry the task of evaluating whether their humans should meet. After a few e‑dates and long conversations, they report back to their humans with physical, emotional and intellectual observations. Eventually, the agents put everything in the bag for Bob and Bettany to meet in person.
This example comes partly from my creative mind, but it also reflects a real product from a matchmaking company blending human insight with AI technology to support finding love. I first read about this in the book You to the Power of Two.

As utopic as it sounds, as someone who has gone on dates only to end up disappointed, thinking I could have been at my dance class instead of losing time on something that will not work, I would absolutely send my AI agent to do the first date. Even if it means training her on what I want, who I am and what my hopes for life are.
Digital Personas That Stand In For Us
This leads me to think about identic AI, the digital personas that represent us in the emerging virtual world. Services across healthcare, insurance, government, retail and vacation planning will soon tailor their offerings to the AI agents of busy people.
This alternate world could give natural humans the time to enjoy the wonders of the physical one. For assessment services, this marks a new era. Our clients may become virtual representations of what we once remembered as natural persons. And in this new world, we must ensure these agents are accurate representations of the humans they mirror.
Identity, Embodiment and Verification in the Age of Digital Copies
A natural person will still require identity verification, credential verification and a background check. But an AI agent, as an identical copy of a natural person, will need more. It will need to look like the person, sound like the person and behave like the person.
The avatar becomes the digital embodiment of the human. Their conversational persona and voice identity must align. Their personality and behavioral style must feel true.
Teaching Agents to Stay Within Human Limits
Another important area is ensuring the AI agent, this digital standing of the natural person, is bounded in limits and represents the knowledge of the person at the level of the person. I call this bounded knowledge replication. Stick to what I know.
It is like a credential sandbox, defining the boundaries and scope of what the agent knows and represents.
Ensuring Agents Represent Their Humans Faithfully
AI agent verification is not entirely new, but the implications for assessment companies are. They must ensure the agent’s knowledge adequately represents the natural person’s characteristics.
Are the agent’s skills aligned with the human’s?
Are they drifting from what they were meant to represent?
Is measuring AI agents the same as measuring natural persons?
Is the outcome of an assessment done on an AI agent generalizable to the human’s skills?
Do we create assessment content in the same way?
After all, AI agents do not get tired after answering a thousand questions. They do not feel cold in a room. They do not need adequate light.
